Castel Ursino

The most important medieval building of the city is the Castel Ursino, buid in the years between 1239 and 1250 of Federico II. The building surrounded by a ditch has a quadratic outline, angular and cylindrical piling up, as well as half cylinder piling up that are in the middle of the sides. It is supposed that it carries the name of a Roman consul (Arsinius) or that of the Roman family of the Orsini, that was in the Middle Ages to Sicily escaped, after they were banished out of Rome, on the side of the Gibellinen placed had itself (follower of the emperor).
