Catania is one of the largest cities of Sicily, only Palermo is somewhat more strongly settled of inhabitants. The city lies on foot of the volcano Etna and was able to make also already frequent contact to the hot contects (Lava) of the volcano in the past. So Catania 1669 was haunted of a very bad earthquake that almost destroyed the total city and the nearer environment. As if that was not already enough, 30 years later the volcano sent its lava measures again until to the city gates of the city which couldn't stand the enormous pressure, so Catania became destroyed again.

In the history of the city it gives a lot of writings about the activity of the Etna in the last centuries. Yet so actively like it presented so diligently and actively the sicilian people appeared with him, when they replace the emerged damages by pretty buildings and expanded floors. The sicilian people are really life happy persons and so lingered not so long with sorrow and misery, but rather built the city again. This time they thought futuristically however and they noted urbanistische caution measures. Also a more modern style became a part of Catania and is admired until today, it will be found very often in catania in wonderful baroque-style.

That is one of the well best known sight cathedral of Catania / Piazza del Duomo Which is lain in the heart of the medieval city. It is the most important church in Catania entire especially since also the grave of Vincenzo Bellini is to be found in the interior of the church. This church, it shows further important treasure, the treasure of the holy Agathe (Sant Agata) Sant Agata largely is celebrated in Catania and so is carried in February a holy figure by the city. This figure is very largely and heavy and many men from different parts of Catania carry the figure through the streets. The procession march leads through the total city of Catania. Enclosed 11 gigantic man high candles are carried by single persons usually they ask for a miracle of holy Agathe. Persons the relative paralyzed became that by an accident for example, take part at the procession train and carry one of these 11 gigantic candles the total way by the different quarters. They request a miracle of the holy of which after statements of the population already once arrived. Whether that carry leads would be placed a candle really to a miracle once there. The persons have its traditions and that are not maintained and let run around important events in oblivion. The sicilian people has celebrated so some holy however hardly of one like Sant Agata. Usually each quarters receive a candle around to show which quarter is the strongest. The festival takes part for 3 days and a lot of persons come from the entire world around to see this event from near. A further more important holier is yet San Sebastiano or San Giovanni, How i said there are so many that i couldn't mount all.
The cathedral of catania "Duomo di Catania" is sketched of the architect G. B. Vaccarini , he was one of the architects of that the reconstructiob in the 18 century was leaded. A further work emerged the Fontana Dell Elefante, as well as many other buildings that were build under its direction.
