Catania is one of the
largest cities of Sicily,
only Palermo is somewhat more strongly settled of inhabitants.
The city lies on foot of the volcano Etna and was able to make also already frequent contact
to the hot contects (Lava) of the volcano in the past.
So Catania 1669 was haunted of a very bad earthquake that almost destroyed
the total city and the nearer environment.
As if that was not already enough, 30 years later the volcano sent its lava measures again until to the city gates of the city which couldn't stand the enormous pressure, so Catania became destroyed again.
In the history of the city it gives a lot of writings about the activity of the Etna in the last centuries.
