The capital of Sicily

The largest city on Sicily possesses ca. 750,000 inhabitants and was used in the year 800 before Christ as an important trade base of the phoenician. Palermo passed a warlike time between 264 - 241 before Christ. During this time, the first punic war and the battle of Karthago against Rom was present. This was the first of three large wars between the roman empire and Karthago.

Inside this Cathedral you'll find frescos and top mosaics of Bonanno Pisano (1186) and Barisano Trani (1179), both were important artists of this time. The cathedral of Monreale is one of that sight which you not have to leave, without left palermo.

Near the Harbor Palermos where you can for example take a ferry to Ustica, you'll find the theater "Politeama" at via Garibaldi 33.
