The villa del Casale A well received piece of Roman story, that mosaic ground of the villa showed of enormous skilled-labor art. The entire mosaic ground is produced out of many little mosaic pieces. Who was already once there, can confirm how wonderful it is there. Some areas are received and describe especially well for example the trade with Africa. I personally find that the villa del Casale is one of the most important archaeological finding site of the last years. The partially complete mosaic grounds describe flows of past days so impressively like no other ground mosaic or wall-painting.
In the mountains of the Erei, 721 ms highly over the sea mirror, about 30 km of Enna remote you can find Piazza Armerina with its historic plotted kernel. Surrounding of one of the prettiest landscapes of Sicily - forests, fruit and olive trees surround this charming area. The villa del Casale is ca. 6km far from the City of Casale, the famous city of the mosaic grounds. It became between that 3rd and 4th century as a hunt seat and country seat built and served a rich Roman businessman. The brightness period of the villa was in the year 400-500 after Christ, shortly before the barbarians ran over the island.
In the 13 century, the villa was buried through a landslide, the mud covered the total villa.
The villa was freed not until the 20th century, mud covered and protected the archaeological finding site for a lot of years
The old Roman country seat was freed between 1930 and 1960.
It is the largest Roman building on Sicily and one of the most important of the total antique.
Today the villa del Casale with its destroyed roof and its fantastic mosaic grounds is protected under a
plastic hood, this device protects the villa against that nature.
